Lawson breaks own 5K record at High Point VertCross Invite

KERNERSVILLE, N.C. — For the second-time this season, Sweet Briar junior Victoria Lawson broke one of her own school records, as she shattered her own 5K mark at the High Point VertCross Invitational at the Ivey M. Redmon Sports Complex on Friday.

After breaking her own school record in the 6K earlier in the season, Lawson (Shipman, Va.) bettered her 5K mark on Friday afternoon by over two minutes when she crossed the finish line with a time of 22:20.9. The previous Sweet Briar school record of 24:41.8 was set by Lawson at the Hornet Harrier Invitational on September 24, 2016.

In a field of 168 runners representing schools from NCAA Division I, II and III, Lawson finished 114th, ahead of runners from Division I schools: Marshall, UNC-Greensboro, Coastal Carolina, Longwood, Presbyterian, Charleston Southern and North Carolina A&T.

Sophomore Hannah Marron (Beaverton, Ore.) recorded a final time of 27:46.46, while first-year Isabella Frost (Jacksonville, N.C.) posted a 30:30.71 mark.

The Vixens are scheduled to next compete at the ODAC Championships at Kernstown Battlefield in Winchester, Va. on October 27.
