Cross Country Makes A Good Showing at Virginia Tech Alum Invite

BLACKSBURG, Va.- Sophomores Victoria Lawson and Jessie Melrose once again led the Sweet Briar cross country team as they raced in the Virginia Tech Alumni Invitational on Friday evening. The classmates finished 98th and 101st respectively in the combined Division I and Division III race to lead SBC XC to a 13th-place finish.

Racing against schools such as Florida State University, Ohio University, and the host Hokies, the Vixens finished fifth amongst six Divison III schools, including Old Dominion Athletic Conference foes Lynchburg, Washington and Lee, Roanoke and Hollins. 

Classmates Lawson and Melrose paced SBC over the 6k course finishing in 29:34 and 30:53 respectively. The Tech Alumni Invite was Lawson's first race of the fall season. 

Rounding out the young Vixen scoring five were Alisha Wash, Hannah Marron, and Madison Harpham. The trio of first-years crossed the line in times of 33:28, 36:29 and 41:50, respectively.

Sweet XC will be in action again next weekend when they travel to the Shenandoah Hornet Harrier on Saturday, Sept. 23.
