Cross Country Kicks Off Season At Bridgewater

BRIDGEWATER, Va.- The inaugural Sweet Briar cross country team got its first taste of competition on Thursday evening when they competed at the Eagle Cross Country Challenge, hosted by Bridgewater College.

As a team, the Vixens finished in ninth place, just four points shy of eighth-place Hollins University.

First-years Victoria Lawson and Jessie Melrose led the way for the Vixens. Lawson traversed the 4k course in 18:54 to claim 31st place, while Melrose took 52nd place in a time of 20:19.

Junior Lydia Gullicksen crossed the line 68th overall in a time of 21:51. Classmate Maggy O'Donnell and senior Kim Uglum rounded out the scoring runners for Sweet Briar by finishing 77th and 78th respectively.

The Vixen harriers will be in action next at the ODAC Preview on Friday, Sept. 9. The meet is hosted by Washington and Lee University and will be held at the Vista Links Golf Course in Lexington.
