HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — The spring tennis season got underway with a trio of singles wins for Sweet Briar, as the Vixens fell 6-3 at the Evian Tennis Center to the Defiance Yellow Jackets.
Sweet Briar (1-1) rallied from 3-0 down to Defiance (5-14), following doubles play and picked-up three team points in singles action with victories at No. 1, No. 3 and No. 6 singles.
Junior Emily Wandling (Mechanicsville, Va.) earned a victory in two sets at No. 1 over A.J. Breneman (6-2, 6-0). Wandling's victory at the top singles spot, moves her singles record on the season to 3-2, including a 2-0 mark at the top spot.
At No. 3, junior Lacey Tucker (Swansboro, N.C.), picked up her first victory of the 2018-19 season by toppling Sydney Huston (6-4, 6-4) in two sets. Tucker's victory was the first of her career at No. 3 singles.
The Vixens' final singles point came at No. 6 singles, where sophomore My-Xuan Hillengas (Oak Park, Ill.) defeated Aleah Blanchard (6-4, 6-4), to improve to 2-1 on the year.
Sweet Briar continues its Spring Break trip to Hilton Head Island with a 4 p.m. match against Moravian on Wednesday at the Chaplin Park Tennis Center.
