GREENSBORO, N.C. — Sweet Briar sophomore Dharma Kear finished 15th overall in the 400-yard individual medley, while an eighth-place finish in the 800-yard freestyle relay helped move the Vixens up to eighth in the overall team standings after two days at the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Swimming Championship inside the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
Saturday's evening session got underway with the Vixens finishing ninth overall after winning the consolation final of the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 2:14.80. Sweet Briar's relay team of sophomores Sarah Ahson (Manassas, Va.), Theresa Carriveau (West Chicago, Ill.), Kear (Virginia Beach, Va.) and first-year Lauren Jones (Danville, Va.) swam the Vixens' best time this season in the event during the morning preliminaries with a time of 2:14.44.
Kear was the first Sweet Briar swimmer to earn an individual evening swim as she finished 15th overall in the 400-yard individual medley. Kear, who finished 15th in the prelim with a time of 5:50.69, touched the wall in the consolation final in a personal best time of 5:39.24.
The final women's event of the day saw Sweet Briar finish eighth in the 800-yard freestyle relay, edging out Virginia Wesleyan and Guilford with a time of 9:41.15. Ahson, Kear, Jones and Carriveau made up Sweet Briar's relay squad at the conclusion of day two.
Jones and first-year Taylor Shaw (Virginia Beach, Va.) finished 22nd and 26th, respectively, in the 200-yard freestyle preliminaries. Jones touched the wall with a personal best time of 2:37.51, while Shaw finished with a new personal best of her own at 3:03.85.
The prelims of the 100-yard breaststroke saw Carriveau finish 21st with the fastest Sweet Briar time of the season in the event at 1:23.83. In the same event, sophomore Nora Florio (Lynchburg, Va.) recorded a personal best time of 1:46.42, finishing 28th in the prelims.
Shaw touched the wall at 2:02.11, while finishing 28th in the prelims of the 100-yard backstroke.
Sweet Briar moved up from ninth to eighth on day two, leapfrogging Ferrum. Sweet Briar sits on 78 points, with Ferrum at 74, Guilford at 55, Virginia Wesleyan at 46 and Greensboro at 3. Washington and Lee extended its lead with 672 team points, followed by Randolph-Macon in second with 448.
The final day of the ODAC Championships begins on Sunday with the 200-yard backstroke preliminaries at 10 a.m.
