GREENSBORO, N.C. — The opening day of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Swimming Championship at the Greensboro Aquatic Center saw a pair of ninth-place relay finishes for Sweet Briar, putting the Vixens in ninth overall at the conclusion of Friday's evening session.
Following the morning session, the Vixens finished first in the consolation final of the 200-yard freestyle relay, finishing ninth overall, with a time of 1:57.57. Sweet Briar's relay team of first-year Lauren Jones (Danville, Va.), sophomore Sarah Ahson (Manassas, Va.), sophomore Theresa Carriveau (West Chicago, Ill.) and sophomore Dharma Kear (Virginia Beach, Va.) topped their preliminary time of 1:59.94, to better the Vixens' season-best mark in the event.
The consolation finals of the 400-yard medley relay resulted in another top finish for the Vixens, topping both Guilford and Virginia Wesleyan for the second time in the evening. The Vixens' 5:00.68 in the consolation finals earned Sweet Briar ninth overall. Ahson, Carriveau, Kear and Jones posted Sweet Briar's top time of the season in the preliminary heat with a time of 5:00.40.
Earlier in the day, Jones finished 25th in the prelims for the 500-yard freestyle, posting a personal best time of 6:51.07. Sophomore Nora Florio (Lynchburg, Va.) finished 27th in the same event, finishing also posting a personal best mark of 7:16.51.
The preliminary session of the 50-yard freestyle saw Carriveau finish 38th with a time of 29.99, while first-year Taylor Shaw (Virginia Beach, Va.) was 50th with a personal-best 36.49.
Sweet Briar enters day two of competition with 36 points as a team, 10 points ahead of Guilford and 22 points in front of Virginia Wesleyan. Washington and Lee enters the second day with a meet high 293.
Day two of the ODAC Championship will get underway on Saturday at 10 a.m.
