Personal best marks highlight Vixens' home finale

SWEET BRIAR, Va. — The Sweet Briar swim team wrapped up the home schedule on Wednesday evening at the Prothro Natatorium, falling in dual action to the visiting Ferrum Panthers.

Ferrum outscored Sweet Briar 87-55 in the meet.

The meet opened with the 200-meter medley relay, that saw Sweet Briar touch second with a time of 3:10.67. The Vixens' relay was comprised of Taylor Shaw, Elizabeth Martin, Lauren Jones and Lauren Graham.

Dharma Kear touched second in the 200-meter freestyle at 2:43.31, while Nora Florio was fourth at 3:17.39.

Graham and Jones both posted personal best marks in the 50-meter freestyle, with Graham finishing first at 31.18 and Jones touching third at 36.60. Shaw finished fifth with a time of 47.40.

Graham recorded a second personal best in her next event, finishing second with a time of 1:15.62 in the 100-meter freestyle.

Tbe 100-meter backstroke saw Kear finish second with a time of 1:28.46, while Shaw finished fifth at 2:36.70.

Florio notched a personal best of her own in the 400-meter freestyle, touching the wall second at 6:44.48.

Kear finished with a personal best time in the 100-meter breaststroke, winning the event with a time of 1:37.09, touching before Martin touched in third with a time of 1:53.78. Florio's personal best 1:59.76 put the sophomore fourth in the 100-breaststroke.

The evening ended with an exhibition 200-meter freestyle relay, which saw an incredibly tight race end with the Vixens finishing at 2:33.77 and edging the Panthers, who finished with a time of 3:35.33. Shaw, Graham, Kear and Jones made up the Vixens' final relay squad.

Sweet Briar concludes the regular season on Saturday in Washington, D.C., with a scheduled 1 p.m. start at Gallaudet.
