Personal bests fall as Vixens meet Hollins and Emory & Henry

SWEET BRIAR, Va. — Multiple personal and season bests fell on Saturday afternoon, as the Sweet Briar swim team fell in a tri-meet to Emory & Henry and Hollins at the Prothro Natatorium.

Emory & Henry finished with a 104-61 victory over Sweet Briar and 92-68 win over Hollins, while Hollins topped Sweet Briar 114-62.

The Vixens opened the meet with a second-place finish in the 200-medley relay, as Caroline Thomas, Elizabeth Martin, Dharma Kear and Theresa Carriveau finished with a time of 2:38.29.

Kear was the first Vixen to swim an individual race, posting a season best time of 12:26.93 in the 800-freestyle.

Lauren Jones recorded personal best when she finished fourth in the 200-freestyle with a time of2:56.07, while Taylor Shaw touched the wall fifth at 4:02.37.

Lauren Graham was fourth at 31.35 in the 50-freestyle, while Catherine Williams was fifth with a time of 41.55 and Rosemary Austin finished sixth at 54.96.

Kear recorded a second third place finish, when she touched at 1:29.34 in the 100-butterfly.

Graham notched a season best time in the 100-freestyle, finishing at 1:24.60 as she touched fourth in the 100-freestyle. Thomas rounded out the event for Sweet Briar in fifth at 1:32.80.

Thomas was fourth at 1:35.54 and Shaw fifth at 2:10.53 in the 100-backstroke.

Jones notched a second personal best, finishing at 6:19.01 and touching the wall fifth in the 400-freestyle, while Nora Florio was sixth at 7:03.63.

Martin finished with her best time in a Sweet Briar swimsuit in the 100-breaststroke, finishing fifth at 1:47.01. Florio added a personal best in the same heat, finishing sixth at 2:03.24.

Sweet Briar earned top relay points in the 200-freestyle relay, with Martin, Shaw, Florio and Jones finishing at 2:44.13.

The Vixens wrap-up the 2018-19 home slate on Wednesday with a 6 p.m. home meet scheduled against Ferrum.
