Kear touches second twice; Bridgewater takes dual

BRIDGEWATER, Va. — Sweet Briar sophomore Dharma Kear posted a pair of second-place finishes on Friday, as the Vixens dropped a dual meet against Bridgewater 147-33 at Nininger Hall Pool.

Kear (Virginia Beach, Va.) and fellow sophomore Nora Florio (Lynchburg, Va.) were the first Vixens in the pool, competing in the 800-meter freestyle. Kear finished second with a time of 12:51.73, while Florio touched third at 14:50.10.

First-year Lauren Jones (Danville, Ga.) swam to a time of 3:05.12 in the 200-meter freestyle to place third, while sophomore Theresa Carriveau (West Chicago, Ill.) and first-year Taylor Shaw (Virginia Beach, Va.) finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 50-meter freestyle. Carriveau finished at 35.04, while Shaw posted a time of 43.33.

The 200-meter individual medley saw first-year Natalie Waldo (Woodstock, Ga.) place fourth at 3:11.13, while Kear was fifth at 3:17.14.

Waldo was back in the pool for the 200-meter butterfly, where she finished second at 3:19.83. Two events later, Waldo was third in the 200-meter backstroke. Joining Waldo in the 200-meter backstroke was Jones in fourth at 3:34.89 and Florio in fifth with a time of 3:43.71.

A pair of Vixens swam in the 400-meter freestyle, with Kear placing second at 6:18.27 and Jones touching third with a time of 6:44.80.

Sweet Briar is next in action on Saturday, October 27, in a tri-meet against Hollins and Roanoke.
