The Old Dominion Athletic Conference presented their annual awards over the weekend in Greensboro at the ODAC Swimming Championships. First-year swimmer Sarah Ahson was named the 2017-18 recipient of the Bonnie Kestner Sportsmanship Award.
The Bonnie Kestner Award is given out by the conference to the swimmer that best personifies the following criteria: Demonstrates consistently good sportsmanship, ethical behavior, and unselfishness in their daily participation in collegiate athletics. Demonstrates good sportsmanship outside of the sports-competition setting. The student-athlete must be in good academic standing and listed on the school's roster as a swimmer, manager, or coach. Winners are nominated by their coach and voted on by conference coaches. Bonnie Kestner spent 37 years as a head/assistant swim coach at Sweet Briar and finished her career with a .752 winning percentage as a head coach.
Ahson led the Vixens with top times in five events this season. Ahson notched the season's best times in the 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 50 backstroke, 100 backstroke and 200 backstroke.
