HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va.- The Sweet Briar College swim team picked up its first duel victory of the season by downing ODAC opponent Virginia Wesleyan University on Saturday afternoon at Hampden-Sydney College. SBC edged out the Marlins, 93-76.
First-year Theresa Carriveau continued her impressive debut season by winning three events on Saturday. She started by grabbing nine points for SBC in the 800 free, winning the race in a time of 11:37.33. The West Chicago, Ill. native notched her second victory of the day in the 200-meter IM, stopping the clock at 3:03.07, ten seconds ahead of third-place teammate Claire Zak. In the 100 free, Carriveau and classmate Sydnie Stinnette finished one-two. Carriveau won with a time of 1:14.91 and Stinnette touched at 1:17.38.
Along with her third in the 200 IM, Zak collected two second-place finishes. The first came in the 200 free, where the senior finished in a time of 2:47.65. The Saint Cloud, Fla. native wrapped up her day in the 200 breaststroke, where she stopped the clock at 3:36.43.
SBC claimed first place in the 50 free when first-year Dharma Kear bested the field in a time of 33.76. Kear also won the 200 butterfly with a time of 3:14.56 and the 400 free with a total time of 5:58.73.
Senior Sarah Cahoone picked up nine points for the Vixens with a big victory in the 200-meter backstroke, touching the wall at 3:10.39.
SBC swimming will return to the pool this Wednesday, Nov. 15, when it hosts Ferrum College and Bridgewater College at the Prothro Natatorium. The double-duel is slated to begin at 6 p.m.
