SPARTANBURG, S.C.- The Sweet Briar College swim team opened its 2017-18 campaign at the Women's College Invitational, hosted by Converse College. The two-day event featured seven schools from across the mid-Atlantic and wrapped up on Saturday evening.
Friday night, first-year Theresa Carriveau kicked off her collegiate career with a tenth-place finish in the 1650-yard freestyle. The West Chicago, Ill. native completed the distance swim in a time of 22:23.15.
Sophomore Taylor Allen is looking to build on her highly successful season last year and got things started with a tenth-place finish in the 200 breast. Allen touched in 2:52.81, four-tenths of a second behind the ninth-place finisher. She followed up that performance by finishing sixth in the 400 IM, an event in which Allen set a new school record last season. She stopped the clock in a time of 5:09.65 on Friday night.
SBC's 400 free relay team of Lauren Graham, Carriveau, Sydnie Stinette, and Allen rounded out the day's scoring for Sweet Briar by taking tenth in a time of 4:28.16.
Saturday began with the 400 medley relay and saw Allen, Claire Zak, Graham, and Stinette finish tenth with a time of 5:07.42.
Allen had more success on the second day of competition, taking ninth in the 100-yard breaststroke. The Richmond, Va. native recorded a time of 1:17.71 in the event.
Sweet Briar wrapped up the Women's College Invite with a ninth-place showing in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The team of Graham, Carriveau, Allen, and Stinette finished the relay in a time of 1:52.88.
The Vixens will return to action next Saturday when Washington and Lee University hosts the annual ODAC Relays, which will get underway at noon in Lexington, Va.
