SBC Claims Sixth At 2017 ODAC Championships

GREENSBORO, N.C.- The 2017 ODAC Championships have come to a close and the Sweet Briar College swim team finished sixth overall with 183 points.

Washington & Lee University continued their conference dominance in women's swimming, winning their tenth-straight ODAC title and 26 overall women's swimming conference crown. The Generals also won the men's title, their third consecutive.

The final evening of competition started off with a bang as first-year Taylor Allen was in the pool for another A final, the 200 back. The Richmond, Va. native set a new school record in the 400 IM on her way to a third place finish in the A finals on Saturday evening. Shedding over three seconds off her prelims time, Allen finished sixth in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:12.26.

Mary Stuart McDevitt represented Sweet Briar in the next event, the 100 free. The senior made the most of her final individual collegiate event by winning the B finals in a time of 55.91.

Sweet Briar had two representatives in the 200 breaststroke B finals, junior Clair Zak and sophomore Mikia Hundley. Zak finished fourth in a time of 3:04.56 and Hundley touched sixth in a time of 3:10.03.

Brianna Garcia and Caroline Thomas also represented SBC in the 200-yard butterfly B finals.

Garcia had a quick turn around and joined her teammates Allen, Zak, and McDevitt to claim seventh place in the 400 free relay.

This year's sixth-place performance is an improvement on last year's seventh-place showing and on their ODAC preseason poll placing of seventh.
