Swim Concludes Regular Season With A Victory Over Ferrum

FERRUM, Va.- In its final tuneup before the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championships, the Sweet Briar College swim team took down conference opponent Ferrum College, 93-68.

Mary Stuart McDevitt and Taylor Allen both tallied three first-place finishes, leading SBC in a solid regular season finale.

The duo swam the middle legs of the 200-yard medley relay, along with teammates Claire Zak and Caroline Thomas, winning the first event in a time of 2:08.91.

Allen shaved over three seconds off her season's best in the 100 fly, clocking a time of 1:05.36. With current rankings entering the weekend, that time drop would catapult her six spots in the conference rankings.

The first-year also made quick work of her opposition in the 100-yard back, winning in a time of 1:08.37.

Stuart then showed her senior status with individual victories in the 200 IM and 100-yard breaststroke. The senior clocked a 1:15.78 in the 100 breast, which slightly improves on her best time of the season. Stuart and Allen both rank in the top 15 of the ODAC in the 100 breast entering the weekend.

In the 200 IM, McDevitt stopped the clock at 2:42.55 and Thomas came in closely behind for second place.

First-year Brooke Burnett helped the Vixens winning effort with a win in the 1000 free and a second-place showing in the 100 free.

The next step for Sweet swimming is ODAC Championship, which will be held Feb. 9-12 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
