Women's Colleges Come Together For Double Dual At Sweet Briar

SWEET BRIAR, Va.- On Saturday afternoon, the Sweet Briar College swim team hosted a double-dual meet against fellow women's colleges, Hollins University and Cedar Crest College.

The Vixens lost their dual to Cedar Crest, 110-70, and came very close against rival Hollins, but fell, 89-87.

First-year Taylor Allen led the Vixens with two individual victories on the afternoon. Her first came in the 100-meter butterfly, where she pulled away from her Hollins opposition over the final 25 meters to win in a time of 1:15.84. The Richmond, Va. native came back two events later to clinch another win for SBC, this time in the 100 back. The race came down to the wire, but Allen won in the end with a time of 1:17.03.

Allen also notched a second-place showing in the 50 freestyle, where she finished in a time of 29.89.

Mary Stuart McDevitt had another solid day for Sweet Briar. The senior won the 200-meter freestyle by over half a second, touching at 2:29.50. A second-place showing in the 100-meter breaststroke followed up that effort, where she finished just six-tenths of a second behind the winner in a time of 1:23.74.

McDevitt also finished second in the 100 free, shaving over a second off her previous best on the season with a time of 1:06.18.

The Vixens will next be in action on Wednesday, Nov. 9, when they host Ferrum College and VMI for another double dual.
