Sweet Swimming Opens Home Campaign Against Bridgewater

SWEET BRIAR, Va.- Friday night marked the home opener for the Sweet Briar College swim team as they hosted Bridgewater College. The Eagles won the conference dual, 139-52.

Senior Mary Stuart McDevitt had a good showing, winning two individual events. The first was the 50 free, won in a time of 30.04. The Yulee, Fla. native's second victory came in the 100-meter freestyle, with a time of 1:05.49. McDevitt also finished second in the 200-meter breaststroke in a time of 3:10.54.

First-year Taylor Allen used a strong surge over the final 50 meters to win the 400 freestyle. Allen out-touched Bridgewater's Caitlin Lacy by less than five-tenths of a second, finishing in a time of 5:12.37.

The Vixens will regroup and be back in the pool again tomorrow when they host Hollins University and Cedar Crest College for a women's college double-dual meet. The first event is schedule for 12 p.m. in Prothro Natatorium.
