Vixen Swim Travels to DC For Dual With Gallaudet

WASHINGTON D.C.- The Sweet Briar College swimming team traveled to our nation's capital for a dual match with Gallaudet University on Saturday afternoon. The Vixens hung tough throughout the day, but the host Bison prevailed, winning 108-87.

The day started with a decisive victory for the Sweet Briar 200-medley relay team of Caroline Thomas, Claire Zak, Taylor Allen, and Mary Stuart McDevitt, finishing in a time of 2:12.44.

Allen later picked up victories in the 50 free and the 100 breast. The first-year finished the 50 free in 26.63 and the 100 breast in 1:15.14.

Thomas, who is also the starting goalkeeper for the Vixen soccer team and made 11 saves in the teams Friday night game at Shenandoah, made her first appearance for the swim team of the season. After swimming the opening leg for the winning 200 medley team, the Appomattox, Va. native won the 100-yard back in a time of 1:19.04, and then swam the first leg for the Vixens victorious 400 free relay team.

That 400-yard freestyle relay team included Thomas, Brooke Burnett, Brianna Garcia, and Zak. The foursome of underclasswomen finished in a time of 5:01.97.

After swimming anchor on the 200-medley relay team, McDevitt won the 200 IM in a time of 2:30.89. The senior quickly followed that up with another win, touching in 1:00.72 to win the 100 free by nearly 12 seconds.

The Vixens will be in the pool next on Friday, Nov. 4 when they host Bridgewater College for their home opener. That dual will be followed by a women's college tri-meet the next day, Saturday, Nov. 5, when the Vixens host Hollins University and Cedar Crest College.
