Sweet Briar honors Thomas; Wasps top Vixens

SWEET BRIAR, Va. — Senior goalkeeper Caroline Thomas recorded 16 saves on her Senior Day at Babcock Field as the Vixens dropped an 8-0 decision to Emory & Henry in the season finale for Sweet Briar.

The eventual match-winner came in the second minute when Makayla Carter assisted on a goal from Ashley Love at the far post.

The Wasps would score four goals in each half, to earn the 8-0 victory.

Sweet Briar sophomore Caylin Newman (Bedford, Va.) and first-year LaLa Martinez (Richmond, Va.) both tallied one shot on goal during the match.

Thomas' (Appomattox, Va.) 16 saves give her 203 on the season, which is a career-high for the Vixens' goalkeeper.

Sophomore Sammy Holton (Arbutus, Md.) made two saves in six minutes of relief of Thomas.

Thomas was honored by her coaches and teammates prior to Saturday's match, following over 3000 minutes spent between the goalposts during her collegiate career.

The Vixens wrap-up the season with a 1-16-0 overall record, and an 0-10-0 mark in ODAC play.
