Vixen keepers stop 11 in loss to Panthers

AMHERST, Va. — Sweet Briar goalkeepers Caroline Thomas and Sammy Holton combined for 11 saves in the Vixens' 7-0 loss to LaGrange at Amherst County High School on Sunday afternoon.

LaGrange (3-3-1) scored the eventual game winner in the 12th minute when a pass through traffic from Zoe Watts found Olivia Braun, who tucked her shot inside the far post. The Panthers would score a second goal in the 27th minute, before netting five goals in the second half.

Sweet Briar sophomore Lera Cordner (Macungie, Pa.) took the Vixens' two shots on the day, with a shot in the 75th blocked by a defender and a free kick that missed high in the 82nd.

In goal, senior Caroline Thomas (Appomattox, Va.) recorded nine saves in 81 minutes, while sophomore Sammy Holton (Arbutus, Md.) followed a start in the outfield with two saves in a relief appearance between the posts.

Sweet Briar returns to ODAC action on Friday, September 28, with a 7 p.m. kickoff scheduled against conference newcomers Ferrum.
