SWEET BRIAR, Va. --- On the eve of Sweet Briar College's Homecoming/Families Weekend celebration, Vixen Soccer hosted Roanoke College at Babcock Field. The visiting Maroons currently sit in fourth place in league standings.
Roanoke took an early lead at the eight-minute mark when Rebekah Adams (Springfield, Va./Springfield) assisted Carmen Graves (Christiansburg, Va./Christiansburg) on the opening score. Adams scored a goal of her own in the 19th minute. Teammate Stephanie Parenteau (Virginia Beach, Va./Kellam) followed suit as she dished out a helper in the 23rd minute and then tallied a goal three minutes later. Kara Kappel (Trumbull, Ct./Trumbull) capped first half scoring at 43:25.
Sweet Briar College made a keeper change to start the second frame as Katherine Day (Clifton Forge, Va./James River) made her debut between the pipes in relief of start Katherine Tillson (Mechanicsville, Va./Atlee).
Tillson turned away five shots during her service. Day held the Maroons scoreless through 22 minutes and recorded three saves for the contest.
Kristen Figel (Middlesex, N.J./Middlesex) lead the way for Roanoke after intermission. The first-year netted a pair of goals and helped Roanoke to its seventh conference win.
Sweet Briar returns to Babcock for its final home game of the 2012 season on Saturday, October 20. The Vixen side host Guilford College and match time is set for 12:30 p.m.
Prior to the kickoff, SBC will honor senior Ali Lifka (Arden, N.C./T.C. Roberson). Lifka is a four-year starter, two-time All-ODAC Academic Team honoree, Student-Athlete Advisory Committee member and accomplished photographer. The environmental science major plans to embark on a hiking expedition after graduation.
In addition to senior day ceremonies during Homecoming/Families Weekend, Vixen Athletics also celebrates the induction of a fourth class into the Athletics and Riding Hall of Fame.
