SWEET BRIAR, Va. — Junior Maciel Garcia recorded a hat trick as the visiting St. Andrews Knights topped Sweet Briar 12-6 at Babcock Field on Wednesday afternoon.
Garcia (Occoquan, Va.) tied the game for the Vixens (2-10) at the 21:58-mark when first-year Sarah Schindler (Charlotte, N.C.) delivered an assist.
The Knights second goal of the day came from Briana Minter, before Garcia scored on a free position shot at 19:39.
Skii Bollinger gave the Knights a 3-2 lead at 18:58, but Sweet Briar responded with back-to-back tallies to take a 4-3 lead. Garcia completed her hat trick with 17:42 remaining in the period, for the Vixens' third goal and then assisted on sophomore Hannah Marron's (Beaverton, Ore.) goal at 13:24.
Another back-and-forth saw Kelsey Houser score for St. Andrews before junior Kierstan Mullins (Richmond, Va.) helped the Vixens regain their lead at 5-4.
Skii Bollinger scored four-straight for the Knights to close out the opening half, sending the two teams to the break with St. Andrews leading 8-5.
The second period saw St. Andrews score four goals, before junior Victoria Lawson (Shipman, Va.) scored her 27th goal of the season with less than three minutes remaining in regulation.
Garcia finished with three goals and two assists, while first-year LaLa Martinez (Richmond, Va.) snagged a team-high five ground balls. Mullins and Lawson each controlled two draws, while Lawson and sophomore Madison Harpham (Monroe, Va.) led the Vixens with five caused turnovers.
In goal, sophomore Sammy Holton (Arbutus, Md.) recorded 19 saves for the Vixens.
Bollinger led all scorers on the day with six goals for St. Andrews.
Sweet Briar concludes the 2019 season on Wednesday, April 3, with a 5 p.m. home meeting with Hollins.
