Lions top Vixens in Sunday matinee

BRYN ATHYN, Pa. — Sophomore Madison Harpham led Sweet Briar with five ground balls, as host Bryn Athyn topped Sweet Briar 14-1 at Nelson Field on Sunday afternoon.

The Lions (1-1) jumped onto the scoreboard first with Jess Philipp assisting on a Rose Glass goal with 28:30 remaining in the first period, followed by an unassisted score from Bri Lennonx at 24:07.

Lennox's goal was the eventual game winner, before the Lions rattled off eight additional goals in the opening period, heading to halftime with a 10-0 lead.

Following a Bryn Athyn goal, which opened the second half, Sweet Briar junior Victoria Lawson (Shipman, Va.) tallied the Vixens' lone goal with 26:05 left in regulation. Lawson's goal was her 17th of the season.

Bryn Athyn followed Lawson's goal with three additional tallies to secure the 14-1 home victory.

Sophomore goalkeeper Sammy Holton (Arbutus, Md.) made five saves in goal for Sweet Briar, while also causing three turnovers and snagging four groundballs.

Harpham (Monroe, Va.) led the Vixens with five groundballs on the day, while Lawson grabbed a team-high three draw controls. Holton and Harpham finished with three caused turnovers each.

Sweet Briar concludes its road slate on Wednesday with a 4 p.m. opening draw at Ferrum.
