SWEET BRIAR, Va. — Junior Victoria Lawson scored her 10th goal of the season as the Vixens dropped an 18-1 decision on Wednesday afternoon to the visiting Wesley Wolverines at Babcock Field.
With temperatures touching freezing, Wesley (2-0) opened the scoring with 27:36 on the clock as Paige Brehm scored off an assist from Kassie Dieter. The eventual game winning goal came nearly a minute later when Fallon Fore tallied off an assist from Brehm.
After returning to play from the halftime break with the score 13-0 in the Wolverines' favor, Wesley notched a goal with 18:46 remaining in regulation to take a 14-0 lead, but Lawson (Shipman, Va.) would score the lone Sweet Briar goal at 17:56.
Wesley wrapped up the 18-1 victory, scoring its final goal at the 6:42 mark.
Sophomore goalkeeper Sammy Holton (Arbutus, Md.) finished the day with nine saves, and team-high marks with six ground balls and four caused turnovers.
Lawson controlled six draws on the day for the Vixens.
Sweet Briar wraps up its two-game homestand on Friday with a 1 p.m. opening draw against Gwynedd Mercy.
