GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Sweet Briar lacrosse team fell 23-0 on Saturday to host Guilford at the Armfield Athletic Center.
The eventual game winner came for the Quakers (2-2) with 29:22 remaining in the opening half, as Audrey Helfenbein scored an unassisted goal to put the hosts ahead, 1-0. Guilford held a 14-0 lead after the opening half, before wrapping up the day with a 23-0 victory.
For the Vixens (0-4) on the defensive side, sophomore Caylin Newman (Bedford, Va.) caused one turnover, while also picking up two ground balls. Junior Victoria Lawson (Shipman, Va.) led the Vixens with three ground balls and six draw controls on the day, while also taking a pair of shots on the offensive side of the field.
In goal, sophomore Sammy Holton (Arbutus, Md.) tallied 11 saves for the Vixens.
Helfenbein and Madison Iandoli led the Quakers with five goals each.
Sweet Briar returns home on March 6, for a 1 p.m. opening draw against Wesley at Babcock Field.
