Phaup, Lawson strike for Vixens in loss to Linfield

SWEET BRIAR, Va. — Sophomore Victoria Lawson and senior Elizabeth Phaup both struck for goals on Friday afternoon as Sweet Briar dropped a 20-2 decision to the visiting Linfield Wildcats at the Babcock Athletic Fields.

Linfield opened the scoring with 27:31 on the clock when Gabriella Moe assisted on an Alex Jensen score. 

The Vixens struck a minute later when Phaup (Amherst, Va.) scored her seventh goal of the 2018 season, pulling the score line to 3-1 in the Wildcats' favor. Lawson (Shipman, Va.) doubled Sweet Briar's total when she scored her 10th goal of the season with 8:29 left in regulation.

Sophomore Kierstan Mullins (Richmond, Va.) led the Vixens with three ground ball pickups, while Phaup led Sweet Briar with three draw controls. On defense, Mullins and Phaup both forced two turnovers and senior goalkeeper A'Shawnta Sherman (Richmond, Va.) notched 14 saves in goal.

Sweet Briar is slated to play host to Mount Saint Vincent on March 27 at 4:30 p.m.
