WACO, Texas — The Sweet Briar NCEA team is moving up according to the National Collegiate Equestrian Association's second set of Event Rankings, released on Wednesday, with the Vixens rising one spot on the flat and two spots over fences.
Sweet Briar's improvement over fences has the Vixens looking in on the top-five teams in the nation from the number six spot. The Vixens two-spot improvement to No. 6 over fences, sees Sweet Briar ahead of No. 7 Texas A&M, No, 8 Oklahoma State, No. 9 Baylor and No. 10 Tennessee Martin. The Vixens moved up one spot to No. 9 on the flat, ahead of No. 10 Delaware State to close out the top-10.
As a team, the Vixens hold fences victories over SMU (No. 4 fences), Delaware State (No. 13 fences) and Texas A&M (No. 7 fences). Three of Sweet Briar's four Most Outstanding Performances in 2018-19 have come over fences.
On the flat, Sweet Briar rose from No. 10 to No. 9. Sweet Briar holds flat team victories over South Dakota State (No. 13 flat) and Tennessee Martin (No. 7 flat). Sweet Briar's average score on the flat as a team sits at 69.39 at the conclusion of the regular season.
The National Championship format includes four Event titles that will be included in the April 2019 NCEA National Championship. The Event titles will be determined through a head-to-head bracket format in each of the four events that comprise a head-to-head in-season meet. The Event rankings are determined by the NCEA Selection Committee and are released to the National Championship. The final set of rankings will be used to seed teams for the Event title competitions in Waco.
Event rankings are determined at each head-to-head competition based on a variety of data points (Win/Loss; Home/Away; Current Rank of Opponent). The Event rankings may differ from the NCEA Team Rankings that are released every week throughout the season, as they are based solely on the results from the single event in the head-to-head meet.
