SWEET BRIAR, Va. — Sophomore Alexis Jones netted her second goal of the 2018 campaign on Sunday as the Vixens dropped an 8-1 decision to the visiting Notre Dame of Maryland Gators at Thayer Field.
The Gators (1-6) struck first when Vanessa Dunn scored off a rebound at the far post in the second minute. The 10th minute saw Dunn assist on a Megan Morales goal, which saw Morales convert the eventual game winner off a pass from the right wing.
The Vixens (2-5) answered in the 12th minute when senior Aoife Magner (North Potomac, Md.) took a shot that was saved by the Gators' goalkeeper Fallon Katz. The rebound off Magner's shot found the stick of Jones (Suffolk, Va.) who converted for the Vixens' lone goal of the afternoon.
First-year Brigitte Gorman (Chesapeake, Va.) tallied two defensive saves for the Vixens, while sophomore goalkeeper Rosemary Austin (Commerce Township, Mich.) tallied eight saves. First-year keeper Janie Bolling (Hereford, Md.) made one save in relief of Austin.
The Vixens forced the Gators' goalkeeper into 10 saves on the afternoon.
Sweet Briar hits the road on October 6th and 7th for a pair of games in New Haven, Conn. The Vixens meet Albertus Magnus on Saturday, the 6th, with a 10 a.m. start time.
