FERRUM, Va. — A 16-save performance by sophomore goalkeeper Rosemary Austin highlighted Sweet Briar's 2-0 loss under the lights at Ferrum on Thursday evening.
The Panthers (1-4) and Vixens (1-3) battled over the opening 35 minutes, with the Sweet Briar defense and Austin (Commerce Township, Mich.) holding Ferrum scoreless, despite 13 shots by the hosts. Austin finished the opening half at Adams Stadium with nine saves.
Ferrum scored the would-be game winner in the 47th minute as Emily Campbell netted the first of the Panthers' two goals on the evening.
Austin stopped seven shots in the second half, while first-year Emily Myers (Fredericksburg, Va.) fired off the Vixens' lone shot of the night.
The Panthers and Vixens meet again on Wednesday, September 26, when Sweet Briar plays host to Ferrum at 4:30 p.m.
