LEXINGTON, Va. --- The Vixen field hockey team fell to Old Dominion Athletic Conference rival Washington & Lee University on Wednesday evening by a score of 9-1. The game was played under the lights on the W&L Turf Field.
Sweet Briar and W&L played a scoreless first fifteen minutes, before Sydney Tomaso (St. Louis, Mo./Villa Duchesne) put the Generals in front. Washington & Lee exploded for five more goals in the half to take a 6-0 lead into the second stanza. Charlotte MacDonald (Bluemont, Va./Foxcroft) scored three goals in less than ten minutes to lead the Generals.
The Vixens opened scoring in the second half when Hannah Oybkhan (Wilmington, Del./Caravel Academy) scored her third goal of the season in the 40th minute. Oybkhan was assisted by fellow first year Emily Dallas (Allentown, N.J./Peddie School).
In net, Katie Torretti (Lemon Grove, Calif./Bishops School) turned away ten shots on the night for Sweet Briar. Also, for the Vixens, defender Eve Mergenthaler (Litchfield, Conn./Litchfield) made her conference leading fourth defensive save of the season.
Sweet Briar returns to action on Saturday, October 20 at 2:30p.m. SBC will be celebrating Senior Day, Homecoming, Families Weekend, its Biennial Hall of Fame Induction and its annual Alumnae Game.
