SWEET BRIAR, Va. --- The Vixens returned to action on Friday afternoon, hosting Sewanee for a celebration of National Field Hockey Day at Thayer Field. Sewanee made some quick strikes and the Tigers took the match by a 10-0 score.
The Tigers struck early, converting a Anna Booke (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Latin) goal just two minutes into the game. Booke would add two more goals in the first half to help her team to a 6-0 halftime score. The Tigers scored four more goals in the second half. Senior Molly Kennedy (Timonium, Md./Bryn Mawr) had three goals as well for Sewanee.
Sweet Briar's attack was paced by first year Emily Dallas (Allentown, N.J./Peddie School). Dallas has two shots on goal and was key to the Vixen offense. Fellow first year Kate Bessette (Stafford, Va./Mountain View), sophomore Kim Orchowski (Crofton, Md./Arundel) and junior Loralei Whittaker (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch) also had shots for the Vixens.
In goal, Brooke Scott (Kemah, Tx./Episcopal) got the start. She made 17 stops, many of the acrobatic variety. Katie Torretti saw 16 minutes of action, making five saves. The goaltenders also received help from Megan Johnston (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan) who provided a stellar defensive save in the 69th minute.
Sweet Briar opens Old Dominion Athletic Conference play on Wednesday, September 19, when they travel to Virginia Wesleyan for a 4:00 start.
