Kerschl named High Point Rider; Vixens tie as Reserve Champion

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. — First-year Chloe Kerschl earned High Point Rider, while sophomore Kaitlin Duecker was named Reserve High Point Rider as Sweet Briar's IHSA team competed at the A. Elizabeth Morrison Equestrian Center on Saturday.

Sweet Briar tied as Reserve Champion with host, Mary Washington.

Kerschl (Lexington, Va.) and Duecker (Chesapeake, Va.) were awarded High Point Rider and Reserve High Point Rider, respectively, after a ride off with Kendall Burdette of Liberty.

Kerschl earned High Point Rider status thanks to a win in Intermediate Flat and second-place finish in Intermediate Fences. Kerschl's performance in Intermediate Flat qualified the first-year for regionals in the event.

Duecker was the winner of Novice Fences and second in Intermediate Flat, while qualifying for regionals in Novice Fences.

Other Sweet Briar winners on Saturday included, sophomore Jen Markey (Montpelier, Va.) in Novice Flat, while first-year Abby Bell (Stafford, Va.) won in Advanced Walk Trot Canter.

First-year Caroline Waters (Forest, Va.) finished second in Intermediate Fences, while sophomore Hannah Inman (Monroe, Maine) was second in Beginner Walk Trot Canter.

Junior Sarah Miller (Amissville, Va.) finished second in Novice Fences and third in Novice Flat.

In Advanced Walk Trot Canter, junior Chandler Fox finished third and in Beginner Walk Trot Canter sophomore Madeleine McAllister also picked up a third-place ribbon.

Senior Talyor Jefferson was third in Walk Trot, while fellow senior Ailish Rhoades (Lebanon, Conn.) finished fifth in Open Flat and sixth in Open Fences. 

The Vixens will ride at Mary Washington again on Sunday to conclude the regular show season.
