Six Vixens Named to Academic All-State Team

SWEET BRIAR, Va. --- Annually the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) organization selects a statewide team of all-academic honorees.  Recipients must be in good standing at the institution, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or higher and must be at least a sophomore.


For the 2011-12 academic year, Sweet Briar College placed six student-athletes on the all-academic squad.  Three sophomores, two juniors and a senior join over 150 collegiate student-athletes from across the Old Dominion on this year’s team.


Sweet Briar members of the VaSID 2011-12 all-academic team include:


Loralei Whittaker  ’14, Field Hockey/Softball, Chesapeake, Va. -- Business
Ali Lifka ’13, Soccer, Asheville, N.C. -- Environmental Science
Emily Jones ’12, Swimming, King George, Va. -- Elementary Education
Rachael Ashdown13, Lacrosse, Dryden, N.Y. -- International Affairs
Emma Merritt-Cuneo ’14, Tennis, Pacifica, Calif. -- International Affairs
Amanda Thompson ’14, Softball, Axton, Va. – Biology
