FREDERICKSBURG, Va. --- Sweet Briar College headed to the USTA-ITA Southeast Regional Women's Tennis Championships hosted on the campus of the University of Mary Washington on Friday, September 20. The tournament is the final week of fall competition for the Vixens.
In the championship singles bracket, SBC's Caitlin Delmas (Asheville, N.C./Homeschooled) picked up a win over Randolph-Macon College's Angela Sportelli. Delmas jumped out to a 6-3 advantage after the first set. She then pieced together a come from behind rally to win the match in a 7-6 tie breaker. In her next match, Delmas fell to Washington and Lee's Megan Buell. Buell, the #3 seed in the tournament field went, on to win 6-2, 6-3.
While Delmas has concluded competition for the weekend, teammates Glory Bowman (Roanoke, Va./Patrick Henry), Allie Raifsnider (Concord, N.C./Jay M. Robinson) and Gina Rutledge (Germanton, N.C./Stokes) are slated for consolation matches on Sunday, September 22.
Due to inclement weather, Sunday's match schedule is to be determined.
