Delmas Leads Vixen Tennis in Weekend Action

SWEET BRIAR, Va. --- First-year tennis player Caitlin Delmas (Asheville, N.C./International Academy) led Vixen Tennis in three straight days of hard court action.  Delmas competed in matches on Friday and Saturday night at Liberty University and then guided the SBC squad on Sunday in the Vixen Invitational II Tournament.


After a loss on Friday evening, Delmas rebounded and picked up two singles victories on Saturday afternoon.  The rookie collected straight sets wins over Virginia Tech (6-1, 6-3) and Radford University (6-3, 6-0) opponents respectively.  Sweet Briar's Glory Bowman (Roanoke, Va./Patrick Henry) also competed in the Liberty Fall Invite.


On Sunday, Delmas and company hosted the Vixen Invitational II Tournament on Sweet Briar's campus.  SBC entertained Old Dominion Athletic Conference opponents Guilford College, Hollins University, and Lynchburg College.


Delmas picked up where she left off Saturday.  The gritty first-year collected three straight wins and earned Lynchburg, Hollins and Guilford to claim first place in Flight A Singles competition.


Delmas teamed up with Bowman in doubles action.  The duo remained perfect on the afternoon and earning three straight wins and the Flight A Doubles title.  Junior Brittany Manning (Richmond, Va./Lee Davis) also added to the Vixen victories.  Manning picked up the Flight C Singles win.


Head Vixen Tennis Coach Teresa Boylan commented that she is, "pleased with the progress of the team through the first two weeks of competition.  We are in good position heading into the ITA tournament."


Next weekend the team travels to Fredericksburg, Va. for the ITA tournament hosted on the campus of The University of Mary Washington.
