Sweet Briar Cracks Top 25 Tennis Rankings

MARIETTA, Ga. --- In an announcement released by TennisRecruiting.net on Monday, June 24, Sweet Briar College learned that its incoming class is ranked 22nd in NCAA Division III women's tennis recruiting classes.

According to TennisRecruting.net, the organization based rankings on commitments reported on or before May 31, 2013 and a group of expert panelists also weighed in on the school selection and ratings.

SBC is the only Old Dominion Athletic Conference member institution to make the top 25, and the Vixen Tennis program also stands out as the only women's college to rate in the top 25.

Sixth-year SBC Head Tennis Coach Teresa Boylan commented, "We have worked diligently through the year to select talented and ambitious players. In addition to the Tennis Recruiting Network players, we have a solid group of returners who will help continue our strong tradition of tennis at Sweet Briar College."

Incoming players join a core of returning players including rising sophomore Mary Elise Dugan (Alexandria, Va./Chatham Hall).  Dugan, who earned ODAC Player of the Week Honorable Mention for the week of April 1, 2013, recorded three conference wins in her rookie season at the #3 singles spot.

Boylan also shared, "We will continue our recruiting efforts at tournaments and showcases through the summer and fall.  Upcoming stops include, MAS Sectionals, TRN L3 National Showcase Tournament (Newport News, Va.), DTS Yale Showcase (New Haven, Conn.), USTA Regional (Birmingham, Ala.), and the National Clay Courts College Coaches Recruiting Workshop (Memphis, Tenn.).
