2012-13 Vixen Tennis Schedule Announced
SWEET BRIAR, Va. --- Sweet Briar College Head Tennis Coach Teresa Boylan has announced the 2012-13 playing schedule. The year begins with three fall tournaments and continues February through April with a mix of non-conference and Old Dominion Athletic Conferences (ODAC) matches. Vixen tennis competes in both the fall and spring seasons.
On September 15, SBC hosts the annual Vixen Tournament. The following weekend the Vixens travel for ITA Regional Tournament play and then the team concludes fall matches with the ODAC Individual Tournament on October 13 and 14.
The Vixens return to the court for spring matches in late February. After a trio of non-conference contests, SBC heads into ODAC match play on March 1 when the Vixens travel to Roanoke for a match with Hollins. The four-match road trip also includes stops at Randolph-Macon, Randolph and Roanoke College.
SBC hosts seven home events to conclude regular season match play. Emory & Henry, Guilford and Virginia Wesleyan visit Sweet Briar at the end of March. April starts with SBC hosting new ODAC member Shenandoah University. The home slate wraps up with matches against Washington and Lee, Bridgewater and Lynchburg College.
When asked about the coming year, Coach Boylan responded, "Vixen Tennis is looking forward to welcoming our new first year players as well as building on the strengths of all of our returning players. We did not lose a single player to graduation last year and I believe the team has a strong will to close out on those tighter matches."
Boylan went on to say, "Our team dynamic is positive and I am looking forward to seeing our players in the fall individual phase of competition. I know we will have good leadership this year with veteran player and captain Sarah Manter (Brunswick, Maine/Brunswick) and fellow seniors Nicole Lee (Seattle, Wash./Seattle Christian Schools), Yuliya Rigg (Sweet Briar, Va./Amherst), and Lauren Morgan (Lexington, S.C./Lexington). Our players pick up new skills quickly and I can't wait to get back on the courts with this team."
