Student-Athletes Honored at Annual Awards Banquet
On Friday, May 4, the Sweet Briar athletics department held the annual varsity awards banquet. The event took place in the Fitness and Athletic Center on Sweet Briar’s campus. Upchurch transformed from field house to student-athlete showcase for the end of the year ceremony. The program began with an address by Sweet Briar College president, Jo Ellen Parker.

Vixen Tennis Receives ODAC Accolade
The Old Dominion Athletic Conference released women’s tennis All-Conference awards this week and Sweet Briar is among the honorees. In addition to recognizing individual athletic performance, the conference also gives a team sportsmanship award. The 2011-2012 Vixen Tennis team is this year’s recipient of the ODAC Team Sportsmanship Award.

Vixens Wrap Up Season on the Road
The 2012 edition of Vixen Tennis wrapped up spring match play on the road at Bridgewater College on Wednesday afternoon. Inclement weather forced the Sweet Briar season finale to be played at a local indoor facility. Due to the change in venue, an abbreviated match schedule was put in play. The Eagles and Vixens played up to decision (5 points).

SBC Hosts Randolph in Final Home Match
Sweet Briar hosted cross-town rival Randolph College on Tuesday afternoon in Old Dominion Athletic Conference tennis action. Both teams upended fellow ODAC opponent Virginia Wesleyan College over the previous weekend and both teams looked to collect another league win.

Byrd Receives ODAC Honor Roll Recognition
Sweet Briar College tennis player Rachel Byrd was named to the Player of the Week Honor Roll as released by the Old Dominion Athletic Conference office on Monday, April 16. Byrd, a Mathews High School graduate from Hartfield, Va. is a first-year student-athlete at SBC.

Sweet Briar earned its first Old Dominion Athletic Conference win of the season against Virginia Wesleyan College on Friday evening. With the 2012 schedule coming to a close, both teams entered the contest looking for the important league win. The Vixens ended doubles action down (2-1), and headed in to singles match play with more wins on their minds.
