Vixens Sit in Third Place Heading into Final Day of Championships

GREENSBORO, N.C. --- An inspired Vixen squad opened day two finals action in convincing fashion.  The Sweet Briar College 200y medley relay team set the tone for the evening session by swimming to a third place finish.  For the second night in a row, junior Dani Humphrey anchored the medley relay team of lead-off swimmer Chloe Day (Barrington, R.I./Barrington) Marian Huber (Newport News, Va./Menchville, Va.) and Vida McCahey (Novato, Calif./Novato).  Humphrey and company's race time of 1:56.51 bested rival Bridgewater by nearly half a second.  The result also set a new SBC event record.

Fourteen SBC swimmers competed in 18 races on Saturday evening. Coach Gallaher was pleased with his swimmer's performances.  "We had a really good morning which lead to a good evening.  I am happy with the way we raced, how smart we raced.  The swimmers stepped up and showed a lot of confidence."

Gallaher went on to say that overall Saturday swim times were faster which allowed his Vixen swimmers to move up slots.  "We tend to be better at the 200 events, so I am really looking forward to the final day.  Sunday's races are equally distributed in all races and we hope to have similar success on the final day as we did today."

Four Vixen swimmers competed in event nine, 200y freestyle consolation race: seniors Charlotte Greenwood (Philadelphia, Pa./Gwynedd-Mercy Academy) and Emily Jones (King George, Va./King George) were joined by first-year Rosalie Purvis (Montgomery City, Mo./Homeschooled) and sophomore Katlyn Fleming (Enfield, Conn./Enrico Fermi ).  Sophomore Marian Huber continued her race successes by placing 6th overall in event ten, the 100y backstroke.

The twelfth and final event for day two at the ODAC championships proved just as exciting as the session's first event.  Again, a relay race featured third place up for grabs and again the Vixens and Eagles battled for the position.  Charlotte Greenwood swam leadoff followed by first-years Ashley Royal (Raleigh, N.C./Millbrook) and Rosalie Purvis and Emily Jones.  The Vixens repeated earlier success over Bridgewater: the SBC 800y freestyle relay team touched the wall in a time nearly six seconds fast than the Eagles.

Six events remain for Sunday's final day of action, which is scheduled for a 10am start.  Athletes will compete in 1650 freestyle, 200y backstroke, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 butterfly, 400 free relay.
