Sweet Briar Races Past Hollins
SWEET BRIAR, Va --- The Vixen Swimming team quickly put their winter training to work on Tuesday evening, defeating Hollins University 168-87 in a meet held at the Northen Swimming Center on the Hollins campus. After returning from their annual training trip just two days ago, the swimmers showed no fatigue, winning handily in their return to ODAC competition.
Junior Dani Humphrey (Vienna, Va./James Madison) and sophomore Marian Huber (Newport News, Va./Menchville) led the way for the Vixens winning three events apiece. Humphrey touched first in the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle and the 100 butterfly. Meanwhile, Huber was victorious in the 100 breaststroke, 200 breaststroke and the 200 individual medley. First year Chloe Day (Barrington, R.I./Barrington) took two wins for Sweet Briar, winning the 100 and 200 backstroke. The Vixens also received individual event victories from Emily Jones (King George, Va./King George), Vida McCahey (Novato, Calif./Novato) and Ashley Tomlin (Monroe, Va./Amherst Cty.)
The Sweet Briar relay teams were also in mid-season form. The 200 medley relay team of Day, Huber, Humphrey and Ronni Schoenherr (Hudson, Wisc./Hudson) took first with a time of 2:03.30. Also, the 200 freestyle relay team of Charlotte Greenwood (Philadelphia, Penn./Gwynned-Mercy), Bridget McGinley (Falls Church, Va./Bishop O'Connell), Jones and Day raced to victory in 1:51.46.
Head Coach Jason Gallaher commented, "We swam very well tonight. The team looked very sharp, and it was a great time for us to see where we are going into the home stretch of our season."
The Vixens next compete on Saturday, January 21st when they head to Randolph-Macon for a meet beginning at 1:00pm.
