WildCats Outlast Vixen Lacrosse

LYNCHBURG, Va. --- Vixen lacrosse traveled to neighboring Randolph College on Wednesday evening for an Old Dominion Athletic Conference contest with the WildCats.

Allison McLamb (Ellicott City, Md. / Howard) finished a Kimberly Orchowski (Crofton, Md. / Arundel) assist to give Sweet Briar and early lead.  The WildCats countered and then Vixen Dayze Gaulin (Freeport, Maine / Freeport) pushed SBC ahead six minutes into the game.  Randolph followed with a trio of goals to take a 4-2 advantage.

Sweet Briar put together a string of four unanswered goals to gain the 6-4 lead.  Randolph collected a fifth goal and then McLamb and Orchowski combined a score to send the Vixens into intermission with a 5-7 lead.

The WildCats opened the second half with a flurry of five goals in a span of six minutes to gain control of the game.  Kelsey Barta (Seattle, Wash. / Ballard) scored off a free position shot and pulled SBC within two goals (10-8), but the WildCats rattled off a four goal run to push the score to 14-8 in favor of the hosts.

Sweet Briar, facing a sizable deficit, mounted a furious comeback down the stretch.  The Vixens created a rally of their own by scoring three unanswered goals in three minutes to set the score at 14-11.

Neither team was able to score over the final ten minutes and the WildCats were able to hang on for the win.

Emily Williams (Zionsville, Ind. / Zionsville Community) played the entire night in cage for SBC.  The rookie keeper made six stops on the night.  Barta and Orchowski added three goals apiece and Orchowski tossed in two assists.

Sweet Briar next faces Guilford College on Saturday, March 29. The ODAC game with the Quakers is slated for a 1 p.m. start.
