BUENA VISTA, Va. --- Vixen lacrosse picked up a convincing win at host Southern Virginia University on Thursday evening. SBC put six players in the scoring column en route to the 17-6 non-conference victory over the Knights.
Kimberly Orchowski (Crofton, Md. / Arundel) gave SBC the early lead and Allison McLamb found the back of the cage a few minutes later to give the Vixens a 2-0 advantage. SVU countered to pull within a goal, and then SBC then reeled of four unanswered goals to take a 6-1 lead at the 20:12 mark.
The Knights quickly scored their second goal and once again, the Vixens poured in four goals in a row to take a commanding 10-2 lead. The first period ended with a trio of goals from Reba Gagne (Old Lyme, Conn. / Old Lyme), Orchowski and McLamb and at intermission the Vixens held a 13-4 advantage.
SVU opened second half scoring and would find the back of the cage once more, but SBC closed out game scoring with a three score run to earn the 17-6 victory.
Emily Williams (Zionsville, Ind. / Zionsville Community) earned the win in net for SBC and improves to 2-4 on the year. Fellow first-year Ashton Reid (Concord, Va. / Rustburg) came on in relief in the second to help preserve the win by making four stops on six shots faced. The Vixen lacrosse record now stands at 2-5 on the season.
Orchowski and Allison Hassard (Greensboro, N.C. / Grimsley) scored four goals apiece to lead the Vixen attack. Gagne collected her second hat trick of the season, while teammates Ewansik, McLamb and Kelsey Barta (Seattle, Wash. / Ballard) each contributed a pair of goals to round out scoring.
Sweet Briar returns to Old Dominion Athletic Conference action on Wednesday, March 26 when the team travels to crosstown rival Randolph College. The contest with the WildCats is set for a 7 p.m. start on the turf field in WildCat Stadium.
