SBC Lacrosse Opens at Ferrum

FERRUM, Va. ---  Sweet Briar College lacrosse opened the 2014 season on the road at Ferrum College on Saturday, February 22.

The game was originally scheduled for Thursday, February 20, but due to lingering snow and wet field conditions, the contest was moved to Saturday night.

Despite a strong second half effort by the Vixen side, the Panthers prevailed 15-9.  SBC first-year head coach Hayley Engster noted that, "we were a second half team tonight and we will look to carry that momentum into our next game on Monday."

Sweet Briar jumped out to a two goal lead, but Ferrum responeded with a three in-a-row to take a lead it would not relinquish for the remainder of the contest.  At the half, SBC faced a six goal differential.

The team opened the second with the first score, but could not hold off the Panther attack and eventually fell by the final score of 9-15.

SBC highlights include a three-goal outing for first-year midfielder Monica Ewansik (Gibsonia, Penn. / Pine-Richland).  Emily Williams (Zionsville, IN / Zionsville Community) played the entire hour in cage. The first-year recorded 10 saves.

Vixen lacrosse hosts its first home game of the season on Monday, February 24.  SBC welcomes Meredith College to campus for a 4 p.m. non-conference game.
