Vixen Lacrosse Hosts WLU, Bids Farewell to Senior Quartet

SWEET BRIAR, Va. ---Vixen Lacrosse hosted Washington and Lee University on Sunday afternoon at Babcock field.  The Old Dominion Athletic Conference game was the last on the schedule for both teams. Just prior to the contest, the Vixen Athletics Department recognized four senior lacrosse players.

Rachael Ashdown (Dryden N.Y./Dryden), Jessie Edington (Alexandria, Va./Bishop Ireton), Sam Schwartz (McMurray, Pa./Perters Township) and Remy Stein (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township) all made their final debuts for the Pink and Green.

SBC limited the visiting Generals to five first half goals behind seven Caroline Baker (Virginia Beach, Va./Norfolk Academy) saves.  The WLU defense also proved stingy as the Vixens were only able to fire away three first half  shots.

To start the second period, Washington and Lee reeled off five unanswered goals before Sweet Briar first-year Torrey Schwartz (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) put SBC on the board midway through the half (11-1).

SBC put in two more scores in the final frame while only allowing one additioanl WLU score down the stretch, but the deficit was too great and WLU took the 12-3 win.

Senior Sam Schwartz added one goal and one assist in the effort.  Teammate Kimberly Orchowski netted a goal off an Schwartz assist.  In goal, the keeper made a baker's dozen saves on 25 shots faced.

With the loss, Vixen Lacrosse conludes the 2013 season with an 8-9 overall record and a 2-8 conference count.  The team finishes ninth in the standings ahead of Randolph College and Hollins University and just a win shy of making the conference tournament.
