Vixens Cruise Past Hollins, Pick Up ODAC Win

ROANOKE, Va. --- Twelve Vixens scored on the way to Sweet Briar College's first 2013 Old Dominion Athletic Conference win on Saturday afternoon.  Sweet Briar opened the game with an Allison Hassard (Greensboro, N.C./Grimsley) hat trick and never looked back en route to the 20-2 triumph over Hollins.

SBC keepers Caroline Baker (Virginia Beach, Va./Norfolk Academy) and Katie Torretti (Lemon Grove, Calif./Bishops School) split time in net.  Baker turned away one shot in the first half and Torretti made two stops in the second.

Each of Sweet Briar's four seniors tallied goals in the effort.  Jessie Edington (Alexandria, Va./Bishop Ireton) led the way with a trio of goals while Remy Stein (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township) tossed in two.  Sam Schwartz (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) and Rachel Ashdown (Dryden, N.Y./Dryden) each chipped in a goal to round out scoring for the quartet.

With the win, Sweet Briar's record improves to 7-8 overall and 1-7 in the ODAC.  The victory also pushes the Vixen side into ninth place in league standings.

Only two regular season games remain in the SBC Lacrosse season.  On Wednesday, April 17, Sweet Briar hosts crosstown rival Randolph College.  The contest begins at 4 p.m. on Babcock Field.  The regular season schedule concludes on Sunday, April 21 when the Washington and Lee Generals cross the mountain for a 2 p.m. game with SBC on Babcock Field.

Vixen Lacrosse will honor its four seniors prior to the WLU game.  Fans are reminded that you can keep up with all things Vixen Athletics on Facebook and Twitter. And for more Vixen Athletics stories, check out our blog.
