Bridgewater Gets Past SBC
BRIDGEWATER, Va. --- Vixen Lacrosse traveled to Bridgewater College on Wednesday afternoon on the hunt for its first Old Dominion Athletic Conference win of the season.
Charlotte Davis (Alexandria, Va./The Field School) scored the game's first goal less than a minute into the contest. Bridgewater tallied the equalizer and then Davis answered to give SBC the advantage at 2-1.
The Eagles used a trio of goals to regain the lead at the at the 23:30 minute mark. Sweet Briar's Olivia Hurt (Charlottesville, Va./The Covenant School) and Taylor Klos (Manson, Ohio/Manson) each netted a goal to pull SBC level with just under 11 minutes remaining in the opening stanza.
Bridgewater closed out first half scoring on a 2-0 run to set the score at 6-4 in favor of the hosts at intermission.
A very focused Vixen side opened the second period with three-unanswered goals to take a 7-6 lead. Hurt's two free position goals sandwiched an Allison Hassard (Greensboro, N.C. Grimsley) score to start final stanza scoring.
The Eagles responded with three goals of their own to wrest the lead away from SBC. Klos collected her game's second tally to bring the Vixens within in striking distance (8-9), but Bridgewater countered with another trio of goals to close out game scoring.
BC kept the Vixens off the board over the final eight minutes of the contest an picked up the 12-8 ODAC win.
Vixen keeper Caroline Baker (Virginia Beach, Va./Norfolk Academy) turned away 8 of 12 shots faced over the full sixty minutes of play.
SBC Lacrosse returns to action on Saturday, April 13. The team travels to Roanoke, Va. for a 1 p.m. ODAC game with Hollins University.
