Sweet Briar Clips Meredith, Earns Sixth Win

RALEIGH, N.C. --- Sweet Briar College put seven players in the scoring column en route to a 14-9 victory over the Avenging Angels of Meredith College in the Thursday evening non-conference lacrosse match.  Sweet Briar, winners of its last two contests, now owns a 6-3 record.

Olivia Hurt (Charlottesville, Va./The Covenant School) paced Vixen scoring with five goals while Sam Schwartz (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township), Torrey Schwartz (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township), and Kimberley Orchowski (Crofton, Md./Arundel) each netted a pair of goals.

Reba Gagne (Old Lyme, Conn./Old Lyme), Kelsey Barta (Seattle, Wash./Ballard) and Allison Hassard (Greensboro, N.C./Grimsley) tossed in one goal apiece.

Caroline Baker (Virginia Beach, Va./Norfolk Academy) went the distance in net.  The sophomore keeper turned away half a dozen shots to help preserve the victory.

The balanced scoring and solid defense exemplified a total team effort.  After the game, Head Lacrosse Coach Eboni Preston commented, "the offense really moved the ball around and worked together as one unit and our defense also stepped up."  Preston continued, "I am proud of the effort we gave on both sides of the ball."

SBC returns to Old Dominion Athletic Conference competition on Saturday, March 23.  The weekend game pits the Vixens against the Lynchburg College Hornets.  The first draw goes up at 1 p.m. on Shellenberger Field on the campus of Lynchburg College.
