Vixens Fly Past Owls, Improve to 5-3
Bryn Mawr, Pa. --- Sweet Briar Lacrosse returned to its winnings ways with a 19-6 road win over Bryn Mawr College on Thursday afternoon. The victory caps a three-game spring break series and puts the SBC Lacrosse record at 5-3.
The Vixen side snapped its scoring slump by netting five unanswered goals to open the game. Olivia Hurt (Charlottesville, Va./The Covenant School) spurred the attack. The midfielder collected six goals, gathered three groundballs and handed out one assist in the triumph.
An inspired SBC team, ready to add to its win total, put eight players in the scoring column against the Owls. Five Vixens tallied two or more goals. In addition to Hurt's six scores, Sam Schwartz (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township)and Torrey Schwartz (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) paced SBC with three goals apiece. Reba Gagne (Old Lyme, Conn./Old Lyme) and Kimberly Orchowski (Crofton, Md./Arundel) each chipped in two goals.
The Vixen squad took better care of the ball in this outing. SBC secured 15 draw controls and caused 10 turnovers while committing only 16 give-aways.
Caroline Baker (Virginia Beach, Va./Norfolk Academy) recorded three saves on six shots in the first half. After intermission, first-year Katie Torretti (Lemon Grove, Calif./Bishops School) took over in net and she too recorded three saves over thirty minutes of play.
SBC now enjoys a week away from competition. The lacrosse team next faces non-conference opponent Meredith College (Raleigh, N.C.) on Thursday, March 21. The away match is scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. start.
