Student-Athletes Honored at Annual Awards Banquet
On Friday, May 4, the Sweet Briar athletics department held the annual varsity awards banquet. The event took place in the Fitness and Athletic Center on Sweet Briar’s campus. Upchurch transformed from field house to student-athlete showcase for the end of the year ceremony. The program began with an address by Sweet Briar College president, Jo Ellen Parker.

SBC Hosts Vixen Dash for Special Olympians
The Sweet Briar athletics department hosted a regional Special Olympics Virginia (SOVA) event on Sunday, April 22. SOVA Olympians from Campbell County and Lynchburg City were invited to attend the first installment of the Vixen Dash. The Vixen Softball team traveled to Emory and Henry College for their final competition date of 2012. Sunday’s afternoon double-header was pushed back from the original Saturday date due to inclement weather moving through southwestern Virginia earlier in the weekend.

Sweet Briar Hosts Mid-Week ODAC Twin Bill
Randolph-Macon College visited Sweet Briar for a mid-week Old Dominion Athletic Conference contest on Wednesday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets, who sit third in league standings, entered the twin bill riding a four-game win streak while the Vixens were looking to pick up their first conference win.

The Sweet Briar Softball team hosted fellow Old Dominion Athletic Conference opponent Eastern Mennonite University on Thursday afternoon. The Royals were previously scheduled for a March 25 double-header but the twin bill was postponed due to inclement weather. At the outset, the April date also appeared to be in jeopardy due to another weather system moving through the area, but the skies cleared and the games started without delay.

Lessons Learned At The Hot Corner
Jordan Pugh entered Sweet Briar knowing she wanted to teach and she graduated knowing she wanted to teach. Over her four years, every detail in between changed. Senior Day at Softball
Today was senior day at Vixen Field where the softball team honored their two seniors, Anna Newberg and Jordan Pugh. Anna and Jordan are the second and third players in Vixen softball history to play for four years. Both players have left their mark on the program. Season comes to an End
The 2010 Softball season came to an end this weekend. The Vixen team learned some hard lessons, but were able to stick together as a group. With a new coach at the helm the Vixens took on the season with their heads held high.

The Softball team traveled to Emory & Henry over the weekend for their last game of the season. The Vixens lost the first game 11-3 and came back in the second game, but fell short in the bottom of the 7th by a score of 6-5.

Ariel Taylor Named March Vixen of the Month
Ariel Taylor was voted March Vixen of the month for her stand out performance on the Tennis Courts. Taylor was undefeated in singles for the season at 11-0 for number 1 singles and 10-1 at number 1 doubles, and led the conference with most singles wins.
