Jess Lamina enters her third season as Head Field Hockey Coach and Assistant Sports Information Director in 2011-2012. Prior to coming to Sweet Briar, Lamina was the Assistant Field Hockey Coach at Gettysburg College. She has also been a part of the USA Field Hockey Futures Program, developing young field hockey players in the Pennsylvania area.

In her first two years as head coach, Lamina has compiled a record of 4-27, had three players honored with Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) awards, and has expanded and enhanced her recruiting base. In addition, Lamina was published in the NFHCA Spring 2010 Newsletter for an article on goalkeeping footwork.

Lamina is a 2008 graduate of Ursinus College, completing a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise and Sports Science. While at Ursinus, she compiled an impressive playing career that included being a four year starter for the Bears. In 2006, Lamina was part of an Ursinus squad that captured the NCAA Division III National Championship.  Lamina was a 2006 NCAA Division III First Team All-American, a 2005 Division III Second Team All-American and three time All-Region team selectee.  In addition, Lamina was named to the Centennial All Conference team every year of her career.  Three times Lamina took home First Team Goalkeeper honors and once she was named to the Second Team.  Lamina closed out her career competing on the 2007 NCAA Division III Senior All-Star team.

At Sweet Briar, Lamina also serves as Assistant Sports Information Director.   She is responsible for lacrosse and softball.  In addition, Lamina focuses on visual media production, including video and photo presentations.

A frequent clinician, Lamina spends much of her summer working at camps.  She is currently the Director of the Goalkeeping Academy at Eastern Field Hockey Camp. Lamina also coaches at the Marlin Summer camps held at the National Training Center in Virginia Beach, Va.

Lamina’s philosophy is to develop the complete student athlete. She believes that team is family and calls for her players to take care of each other on and off the field.  Lamina also believes that learning is a constant in life and she uses field as simply a bigger classroom in which to teach her lessons.

“We have been working hard on training our whole selves and not just our physical bodies. I am very excited to see how the players train with our new techniques. We are looking forward to another competitive season," said Coach Lamina.
