McCumber Named Sports Information Director

SWEET BRIAR, Va. ---  Sweet Briar Athletic Director and Chair of Physical Education Kelly Morrison has announced the hiring of James McCumber as Sports Information Director for the college.

Morrison commented, “Jimmy will be no stranger to the sports information community. Jimmy just completed his third successful year Albright College. In addition to maintaining the athletics website, media guides and social media, he also oversaw the introduction of video streaming at home events and handled the inaugural varsity lacrosse seasons in 2012.”

A Massachusetts native, McCumber has served as the Sports Information Director at Albright in Pennsylvania.  He has been the primary contact for Albright's 23 NCAA sports.  At Albright, McCumber was also responsible for the athletics web presence, video/audio streaming Lions events, as well as creation of all athletics publications.  Prior to his stint at Albright, McCumber spent two years as the Assistant Sports Information Director at Misericordia University.

As an undergraduate athlete at Vassar College, McCumber was a four year member of the men's soccer team.  He also competed for the men's track team and was a sports information student assistant during his days with the Brewers.

“I would like to thank Dean Amy Jessen-Marshall, athletic director Kelly Morrison, and the rest of the Vixen coaching staff for this opportunity,” shared McCumber.

“Sweet Briar student-athletes are known for being hard-working, well-rounded and committed to academics, community service and campus leadership, and I’m excited to publicize those accomplishments.  Sweet Briar athletics also has a great history, and I was extremely impressed with how driven everyone in the department is to advance their Vixen teams.”

McCumber will begin his duties at Sweet Briar on August 1.
